Michael Dell planning to Android phone launch in the US

Dell’s CEO Michael Dell has recently confirmed the fact that his company prepares to launch an Android smartphone in the US – although he didn’t say if the smartphone will be a remade version of the Mini 3i, or a completely new device. The famed entrepreneur called the handset a “starting point” for Dell devices in the U.S. and said that the company is considering additional emerging open platforms similar to Android. AT&T is the carrier that will release Dell’s first US Android smartphone. ccording to Techpulse 360, the smartphone will probably be available in the first months of 2010. By early 2010, there will be many new Android handsets on the market, so Dell has to be very careful with this upcoming phone if it wants to be successful. Partnering with AT&T seems to be a good move anyway, especially since the giant carrier doesn’t have an Android smartphone in its offering. Earlier this month, the Wall Street Journal said that the company would launch an Android-powered device with AT&T, as we reported, though a carrier for this new device has not been confirmed. In related news, Dell said that he believes laptops will continue to dominate netbook sales, as users suffer “disenchantment” with the smaller screen.
