iMovie introduced iFrame video format

The 8.0.5 update of iMovie introduced the iFrame format, a video format based on H.264 that aims to make video editing in iMovie easier, faster and less resource-intensive. Video formats can be confusing and there is often a lot of conversion involved when dealing with video, even if you want to do simple edits. Converting takes CPU cycles, battery life, disk resources and most importantly, it wastes your time. With iFrame, Apple hopes to cut down on the format-conversion time. For that to work, manufacturers need to add iFrame recording to their devices. For example, Sanyo added it to its HD2000A and FH1A camcorders.
