In what may come as a bit of a surprise to most people, North Korea is gearing up to go 3G. Orascom has announced that it has completed the first call on North Korea’s 3G network. Orascom are running trials on their North Korean 3G network, with the hope of being able to launch the network commercially by the end of the year. CHEO Technology, 75% of which is owned by Orascom, has been awarded a 25-year exclusive contract to provide the 3G network infrastructure.
