Deutsche Telekom have been quite docile when it comes to dealing with rival cell phone operators in the US, but not any more it seems. Rumor has it that they are eying Sprint which limps along to this day. This rumor starts from a German paper Der Spiegel and doesn’t cite sources, and it has been reported that Deutsche Telekom and T-Mobile USA are making the possibility of snagging Sprint (and all its heavy baggage, read: Nextel) a “top priorty” in a bid to take a competitor out of the game and pick up the number three spot. Apparently no formal discussions are under way but it won’t be a pretty afair, the teaming up that is. Sprint+Nextel was messy, and now as a third carrier is in the mix, the infrastructure would be GSM with AWS, PCS CDMA, and iDEN, and all of them will be vying for the same allocation of handsets. Don’t like the sound on that.
