Default Verizon to open network for "any app, any phone" in 2008

With the release of iphone and the announcement from Google's Android 2007 has been a good year for the mobile scene. And Verizon just announced that they will be opening up their CDMA network to allow any phone and any application to access Verizon's service in 2008. Verizon customers will be able to user any device or app, even products not sold through Verizon.

According to the press release, Verizon will be releasing a developers kit in 2008 to help anyone "design products to interface with the Verizon Wireless network." This comes as a surprise to anyone who has kept an eye on Verizon's past stodgy stance on opening their CDMA network to outside sources. Sadly, this does not include the iPhone, since this is an exclusive AT&T product (they had their chance), though it does open the door to any future Apple mobile de vices.

We all thought that GSM will be first one to offer open base but CDMA jumped ahead of GSM. Funny, in the sense that i dont think most of us didnt see this coming.
