Default FINALLY!!!! T-Mobile Customers, you can now disable your text/picture messaging!

If you're a T-Mobile user, you most likely know that we have not been able to disable our text and/or picture messaging, as other carriers allow their customers to do. We've been stuck with either upgrading to a messaging package per line, otherwise forced to pay for each message.

GREAT NEWS! As of 8/1/08, T-Mobile users are now able to disable their text/picture messaging feature entirely (both incoming and outgoing messages)!!! You would only receive messages from T-Mobile, which are free.

NOTE: This does not work for T-Mobile To-Go (prepaid) accounts. (Thanks, aegrotatio and Gromit!)

Directions: Call 611 to reach T-Mobile Customer Service from your T-Mobile phone, or 800-866-2453 (800-T-MOBILE). Ask representative to disable your text messaging. Judging from online options, you may want to specify ALL messaging (text and picture).

Also, you can disable them yourself if you have an online T-Mobile Account (if not, you can sign up for one).

Online Instructions:
  • Log In at http://www.t-mobile.com/
  • On the "My Account" tab, click on "Change Services":
  • Check any/all of the following options:
    • Block Instant Messages Block chargeable Instant Messages FREE
    • Block Text and Picture Messages Block chargeable text and picture messages FREE
    • Block Email Block chargeable e-mail FREE
    • Block All Messages Block all chargeable messages
Online Troubleshooting:
  • If you're not seeing those options when you click on "Change Services":
    1. Make sure you're logged into your account
    2. If you're have a family plan, you may need to be the primary account holder. If you're not, or are not sure if you are listed that way, you'll want to call 611 and set it up. If someone else in your family/household is the primary account holder, they may need to make the changes. (Thanks, newlappyuser!)
    3. This does not work for T-Mobile To-Go (prepaid) accounts
  • For those of you that are having errors disabling the messaging online, it seems you have to have "all" checked OR indvidiual messaging, but can't have both checked. If you do, it will not work.

Possible change of policy due to class action lawsuit filed this year
