Default waiting for new S/E phone

I know that the new W760i is supposed to come out during the second quarter of 2008. Anyone have any further info on when it will be available? I was ready to buy the W580i until I saw the news of th 760, but I don't want to wait forever either.

Thanks for any info.

Thanks for that quick reply! I just found this site yesterday and it's very helpful.

So the 760 will be an AT&T phone for sure, then? Since I'll be paying full price for it (contract not ready for phone upgrade status yet) what is the difference between paying for an AT&T model, and getting an unlocked from the Sony site? Other than the AT&T logo on the phone, what would the differences be?

Thanks.
Linda (never saw or bought an unlocked phone before)

You can et 2 types of unlocked phones:
Factory unlocked: You buy the phone from the manufacturer directly or from any AUTHORIZED reseller. You will have all the features that phone model will have minus the service providers logo.
Non factory Unlocked: Someone got that from the service provider ( att, tmobile etc) and then unlocked it. If one unlocks a branded phone typically the phone will have all the features except the WAP ( web browsing capability) but if you know whats up then you can fix that all. Everything will be same as the dactory unlocked phone but a little extra work.

and so far seems like att will carry out the w760i
BTW welcome to the forum.

Default buying unlocked phones

Either att.com
or Ebay.com (make sure seller has more then 50 good ratings) would be cheaper places to buy unlocked phones. Sony.com would be expensive, at least to me

Yes, I actually had been looking at the w580i on eBay, but I figured that if these people selling them are reselling them, I wouldn't have a manufacturers warranty even if they're labeled "new". Please advise me on this warranty subject.

Also-one of the things I like about the w580i is the fitness program/pedometer. On the upcoming w760i, it says "GPS enabled fitness program". Does that mean that unless I pay for GPS service, I won't have the pedometer in that phone model?

Thanks. You all are very helpful and informative.

Linda

usually the service provider gives you the handset warrenty but you have to get it from the provider other wise you need to go to the manufacturer ( and thats a hassle, ship it back and forth and wait all those). Lets get to the point, if you get is form ebay, even if the handset is NEW condition the warranty will be from manufacturer and if its unlocked by someone other then manufacturer then it will void the warrenty.
I would say dont worry abt the warranty, if you are decent on you phone, it will last for a while.

Default s/e w760i

Thanks Katy, for that info. Please post here if you get any news about the release of the 760. I'll hold off buying the w580 for now.
Thanks again.

glad i could help. Just a heads up that now you can buy a SE W580i (refurb, i guess looks/performs new) from att.com without a contract for 100 bucks. Its a good price to me.
