A) If there are two upgrades to be applied. These have to be applied separately.

A) These are the names of the different blocks of data being applied to the device and what stage the process is at.

Q) Why does the ActiveSync connection not appear when the battery has been removed from the phone?
A) This part of the process does not involve ActiveSync. The update files are delivered directly to the device’s ROM.

Q) Does my phone have to have a valid SIM card to run the update?
A) Yes, otherwise the device will not progress beyond the “Invalid SIM” screen.

Q) Are there any file types that are not supported?
A) All of the files within My Documents will be backed up, if you select this option.

Q) I have several different internet connections set up in my web browser. Which one will the MPx220 System Update Tool use to download the updates?
A) The MPx220 System Update Tool will download the update files using the proxy settings of your current internet connection (not the browser default). If you do not connect to the Internet using a dialup account (i.e. on a home [wireless] network), you may have to check the proxy settings by clicking on the LAN settings button (as this is usually configured for corporate access).

Alternatively, if you manually connect the dialup, it's unlikely that your settings will have a proxy configured. For users on home networks, the LAN Settings will take effect which will generally be configured for corporate use. These users should be familiar with switching the proxy on or off as this will be required for normal browsing away from the office.

Q) What is “flash loader”?
A) This is the utility that allows update files to be “burned” to the devices ROM.

Q) I’ve started the update process, but decided I don’t want to finish it right now.
A) Click “cancel” and start the procedure from the beginning at another time.

Q) Can I turn my computer off during the update procedure?
A) No – in fact, if the MPx220 Update Tool is applying the ROM update and your PC is switched off, it could damage your phone.

Q) I keep getting the error “online check was cancelled”.
A) Click “Yes” when the tool asks if you would like to go online and search for the update files (if you click “No” then you will get this error message).

Q) I have an ActiveSync connection, but the tool keeps saying “ActiveSync is currently Disconnected”.
A) Disconnect the data cable from your MPx220 and reconnect it, this should re-establish the ActiveSync connection. If this fails, reboot your machine and re-start the Update Tool.

Q) I cannot get the USB driver to install properly.
A) For full instructions on how to install the USB driver please visit http://commerce.motorola.com/consume...ingstarted.pdf

Q) Where can I get the USB driver I need for my MPx220?
A) To download the current driver for your MPx229 please visit http://commerce.motorola.com/consume...s/smartfon.inf

Q) When the tool tells me to boot my MPx220 up, I get a blank screen and the text “Master Reset!”.
A) This is normal – after a ROM update has been applied, the tool sends an instruction to the phone to reset (hence the need to back up your data). Just wait a few seconds and press the power key on your phone and it will boot normally.

Q) My phone will not boot up when I remove the data cable.
A) Check that the battery has sufficient power for a reboot.

Q) I do not have a computer. Can I download the updates over the air?
A) No. These updates must be downloaded and applied to your phone by a PC.

Q) Does ActiveSync need to be set to “Guest” or “Partnership” in order to successfully upgrade the device?
A) Either “Guest” or “Partnership” mode will suffice.

Q) The System Update is not recognising my MPx220, even though ActiveSync appears to be connected.
A) During the development of the System Update application a number of issues have become apparent with 3rd party drivers and utilities. One such utility is ActiveSync.
On rare occasions, ActiveSync can, without any plausible explanation, simply cease to function. This is entirely out of our control. However, when it happens, the only safe solution is to reboot both the PC and the MPx220 device. This means that the MPx220 System Update tool will need to be restarted from the beginning, but tests have shown that such situations do not otherwise affect the MPx220 System Update tool.

Q) My device does not connect properly when the power is off and the battery removed – what should I do?
A) Try uninstalling the driver, reinstalling the MPx220 System Update tool and running it again (you could also try using a different USB port).

Q) After running the System Update, the Time Zone on my MPx220 was set to GMT -8 Pacific, this is not correct.
A) The Time Zone is automatically set to GMT -8 Pacific US as default after the MPx220 ROM has been updated. If you do not choose to backup your Date & Time Zone settings at the beginning of the System Update, then your device will lose your current settings. If you do select this option, after the System Update has been applied your device will have the correct Time Zone configured and the clock set to match the time on your desktop PC.
