Police are issuing a warning to holiday shoppers Tuesday after two women were nearly robbed and then were shot with a BB gun at a Long Island mall.

Nassau County police are seaching for three suspects who attempted to rob two college students at an area mall. They spoke exclusively with Eyewitness News.

The victims, who asked to have their identities concealed, described the incident as terrifying. They were ambushed at the Green Acres Mall. A man, armed with a BB gun, demanded a cell phone.

Nadia Johnson works next door, and says it was chaotic Sunday night and the sound of gunfire was frightening.

Police are now looking for three suspects. They say one attempted to rob the girls while the other two served as lookouts. Detectives say the women ran away and were shot at.
"When our victim, victim number one, refused to turn over the T-Mobile Sidekick, this subject began to curse and scream at her," Nassau police Lieutenant Kevin Smith said. "As this continued, the girls started to back up. At this point, he fired in their direction, hitting victim number one in the left shoulder." A security guard at Macy's said the store's camera did not capture the crime on tape, but added the mall surveillance could have.

The women say they weren't seriously injured, but say they are traumatized. Police are planning on releasing sketches of the suspects.
