Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA) has announced availability of a new 80GB version of it's PlayStation 3 video game console in North America and Canada. With over 60 playable games and downloads currently available through Sony's free online service, the PlayStation Network (PSN), the company has released the 80GB model especially to provide users with more storage space for games and add-on content that they purchase through PSN.
Meanwhile, the 80GB version features the same architecture as the current 60GB version. It comes standard with 1080p HD video output, Wi-Fi connectivity, a Sixaxis wireless game controller, and built-in Blu-ray Disc player. The new version PS3 is immediately available throughout North America for $599, a $100 more than the 60GB version priced at $499.
Just last month, Sony slashed prices of it's 60GB PS3 console by $100 when it first announced plans to release a new 80GB version. The company says it will continue to sell it's 60GB model alongside of the 80GB model till such a time current inventory is depleted. In Canada, the 80GB console is priced at CND (Canadian Dollars) 659 apiece.
