Now you can finally get Hotmail on your Iphone!! I know this is already out but for the few people like myself that didn't know where to go for information here it is...
P.S. - This information was found by someone else on another website, sorry I forgot the name so credit is due to someone else not me. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- As of late last month MSN now gives Hotmail Plus Users POP3 access which works great on the Iphone but as far as I know it doesn't work if your e-mail address ends in @msn.com instead of @hotmail.com like mine??? Here are the iPhone mail settings I am using successfully (the email addresses and passwords are just examples, of course): MUST HAVE HOTMAIL PLUS SERVICE ($20 per year from MSN) GO TO THE MSN WEBSITE BELOW FIRST TO SIGN UP FOR SERVICE http://join.msn.com/hotmailplus/features-std Email Account: On Account Information: Name: John Smith (note: enter your own name) Address: example@hotmail.com (note: enter your full Hotmail email address) Description: Hotmail Incoming Mail Server: Host Name: pop3.live.com User Name: example@hotmail.com (note: enter your full Hotmail email address) Password: password (note: enter your Hotmail password) Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP): Host Name: smtp.live.com User Name: example@hotmail.com (note: enter your full Hotmail email address) Password: password (note: enter your Hotmail password) Advanced Settings: Incoming Uses SSL: On Incoming Server Port: 995 Outgoing Uses SSL: On Outgoing Server Port: 25 Authentication: Password |

I would also like to add (since i had a lot of trouble setting this up) that when setting this up on your iphone initially your iphone will not connect to hotmail and give you errors. But that's ok, once you get the error go ahead and save all the stuff you entered and go to home screen and then to mail and it will work.
Also you will not find a place to enter the incoming and outgoing server ports so dont get frustrated. And finally the option to set incoming and outgoing SSL to "on" will not be available until you create and save the account, then you have to go to the advanced settings and it will be there. |

Hello,
I followed the above instructions and they worked in the sense that I can now retrieve my hotmail mail after signing up for hotmail plus. The problem is that I cannot send outgoing mail??? This is the message that comes up "Cannot Send Mail - The connection to the outgoing server 'smtp.live.com' failed" So this is a big issue for me!!! Someone PLEASE help me out I would greatly appreciate it!!! |

try this.
put a :587 at the end of the host name like this: OUTGOING MAIL SERVER: smtp.live.com:587 and for advanced settings make sure incoming and outgoing uses SSL is set to on. and also be aware that any settings changes you make might take a few minutes to work so if it doesnt work right away be patient and try again after 10-15 mins. |
