Ok for everyone thats been waiting patiently its finally here.
Actually its been here for a while but just not posted.
This guide is to upgrade your unlocked 1.0.2 iPhone to 1.1.1.
Although this guide is for iPhone's that have been unlocked using anysim or simfree it will however work for any unlocked iphone.
If you dont know what version your firmware is slap yourself and go to Settings>General>About and look for Version.
Also check your Modem Firmware further down in the page it should read 03.14.08_G which means it is 1.0.2
Now don't get intimidated by the size of this guide, it looks like a lot of work but i assure you it wont take you more then 30-45 mins(not including the preperations and backup)
I have broken it into 6 sections:
1. Preperations
2. Backup & Removal of 3rd party programs - not mandatory
3. Adding
http://i.unlock.no/ as a source
4. Revirginizing
5. Updating to 1.1.1
6. Bypassing Activation, Jailbreaking and Unlocking
I would recommend you read through this guide once beofore attempting to unlock your iPhone incase you are not sure of how to do a step.
You dont want to get half way through it and then not know how to do one of the steps and get stuck. So read through it if you dont
understand something post your question here and I will respond. I have done this procedure on my iPhone and it works 100%.
I assume that you have installer.app/apptapp installed on your iPhone. Most everyone already has this if you dont then install it. Also you need to have WI-FI access otherwise do not use this guide you might run into problems.
Ok take a deep breath, recite a holy prayer you like, and lets begin...
STEP 1 - PREPERATIONS
You need to download the following files:
iTunes and USB cable to connect iPhone to your PC
v1.1.1 iPhone firmware
Head to
www.iphone.com and download and install iTunes if you dont already have it. It does not matter which version of iTunes you use. I used the latest one and it worked fine for me.
Next download v1.1.1 iPhone firmware which can be done by clicking here:
http://appldnld.apple.com.edgesuite....a_Restore.ipsw
STEP 2 - BACKUP & REMOVAL OF 3RD PARTY PROGRAMS
This is not a mandatory step but I recommend that you go ahead and do this.
Using iTunes backup all your music, videos, podcasts, etc.. and most importantly your Contacts.
Next you need to uninstall/remove any 3rd party programs you have installed to your iPhone.
All your 3rd party programs can be later reinstalled so dont worry. The reason this is recommended is because some 3rd Party Programs change certain settings/files of your iPhone and are unstable so they may cause problems.
STEP 3 - ADDING http://i.unlock.no/ AS A SOURCE
Ok this is a very simple thing to do and I realy shouldn't have made a seperate section for it but anyways.
In your installer/apptapp go to sources. Tap edit and then add.
Type
http://i.unlock.no/ as a source and refresh.
Now tap install and you should have a section called "Unlocking Tools"
Ok now leave it alone.
Next in installer go under "System" and install "BSD Subsystem" If it is not there then that means you probably already have it installed so go to uninstall and make sure it is there.
--------------------PANSY BREAK--------------------
Ok as of now your iPhone has not been changed too much. All the things done can be reversed and you can go back to enjoying your iPhone.
So if you are a pussy and are going to wuss out now would be the time to stop, go lay in mommy's lap, and suck your thumb.
-----------------------------------------------------
Ok now that that's over lets continue. You are half way done
Before beginning step 4 go to Settings>General>Auto-Lock> and set it to "Never"
Also make sure you have the v1.1.1 firmware already downloaded and saved to your desktop or wherever you want it, and make sure you iTunes is recognzing your iPhone when plugged in via the USB cable.
STEP 4 - REVIRGINZING
Ok when you unlocked your v1.0.2 iPhone using a free service like anysim / simfree or whatever you altered the iPhone's firmware and if you dont restore it your iPhone will not be able to upgrade and it will most likely crash/brick.
So to deal with this hackers have invented a tool called "The Virginizer" basically it restores your iPhone back to factory conditions in
otherword locks it. But dont sweat this is nothing serious trust me.
Ok so go to installer/apptapp and under the newly added "Unlocking Tools" select "The Virginizer (03.x)" and install it. Ignore the other virginizer. It will give you a warning which will say to set the Auto-Lock to never which you have already done.
This will take 3-5 minutes to complete.
STEP 5 - UPDATING TO v1.1.1
Ok now your iPhone should be locked and it shoud say insert correct sim or whatever.
Now turn off your iPhone by holding the top/sleep button for 5 seconds and sliding the red slider. Also at this point make sure your iphone is connected to your computer via the USB cable.
Now you need to update to v1.1.1 and to do so you need to enter recovery mode.
To enter recovery mode, connect the phone to the computer and press and hold the Power button (on top) and the Home button (on bottom front) simultaneously.
After about 15 seconds the phone will appear to turn off, release the Power button but keep holding the Home button. After about 15 seconds the computer and iTunes will detect the phone in recovery mode, and you can perform a restore.
Now dont just go on and do something stupid like clicking restore button. Doing this will restore the iPhone to the latest 1.1.2 firmware which you dont want.
You want to use the firmware you just downloaded. So to manually select the firmware you downloaded hold down the SHIFT key on your keyboard while clicking restore. This will bring up a browse menu and you can select the firmware you downloaded.
Now this will take about 20 mins so go make a sandwich or watch your favorite southpark/family guy episode. Or you can make a sandwich and eat it while watching your favorite southpark/family guy episode.
Ok when its done your iPhone will have v1.1.1 firmware but it will be unlocked. But thats good, that means it worked, now we shall unlock it.
STEP 6 - BYPASSING ACTIVATION, JAILBREAKING, AND UNLOCKING
Ok now this step is a little complex so read carefully as you go along.
Your simcard should already be in your iPhone if its not put it in and slap yourself for taking it out in the first place because nowhere in this guide does it say to take it out.
On the activation screen, slide to emergency and dial: *#301#. This will make the phone call itself.
Now you want to answer the call but what will happen is that the answer option will disapear in like half a second so you wont be able to select it. You will be back at the keypad and your phone will be ringing like crazy. dont panic... erase the *#301# you have dialed and then dial 0 and call.
Now you should be able to answer the call.
Answer the call and place it on hold.
When you do this the phone will immediately call it self again.
This time however tap Decline and you will be returned back to the normal dialer/keypad screen.
Next tap on "contacts" and tap the + icon to add a new contach. The only thing you are going to add this contact are two URL's thats it. Dont add any name, address, whatever just the URLs.
To add a URL tap the "Add new URL"
The first URL you want to add is
prefs: exactly like you see it. Yeah with the colon at the end.
The second URL you want to add is
jailbreakme.com again exactly like you see it. Tap save to save all the settings.
Next tap prefs: and this will take you to the iPhone settings which you should be pretty familiar with.
There's 2 things to do here.
1. Set Auto-Lock to never. General>Auto-Lock> Never
2. Get your WI-FI settings set up and make sure its connecting.
Press the home button.
Now you will be back to the "slide to emergency" screen.
So do the following series of events:
1. slide to emergency
2. dial 0
3. Answer the call
4. Put the call on hold
5. Decline the new call
Now go back into your contacts and tap on the contact you just created (No Name). At this point your WI-FI should be connected. Tap the other homepage jailbreakme.com which should launch the safari browser. Read the text, scroll down, and select Install AppSnapp.
The iPhone will return back to the activation screen but dont freak-out. Just leave the iPhone alone for a minute and dont touch/press anything. It will restart itself and...
OH MY GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It no longer says "slide to emergency" instead it says "slide to unlock"
This means you have sucessfully bypassed activation on your iPhone.
Now you are ready for the grand finale - The Unlocking
Open installer and go to sources tap edit, then tap add, and once again add the url
http://i.unlock.no tap Done and then tap Refresh.
Now go to "Install" and scroll to the "Unlocking Tools" (all this should be familiar to you) select and install "AnySIM".
When its done press the home button and you should see the AnySIM icon on your home screen.Launch it and follow the instructions. The unlocking process will take roughly 5 minutes and When its done it will say it was successful
At this point you can go ahead and remove/uninstall AnySIM from your iPhone as you no longer need it.
CONGRATULATIONS, YOU ARE DONE!!!
